A Brief Reflection On Pain

It is a finely sculpted dilemma: Refined by generations of poor souls who have fallen victim to its ruthless subterfuge, and distilled–heartbreak after heartbreak—until its purity is so excruciatingly precise, that it could cut through the heart of even the strongest of men.  Musicians sing themselves into a blissful world of oblivious distraction to hide from it; poets masquerade it in subtle musings and words so carefully chosen; writers cloak it in fictions—many fictions.  And yet, at the day’s end, they are all still desperate resisters of the same, common, interminable enemy: Pain.
